Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders stars cast in new BBC thriller
A star-studded emotional thriller has been announced by the BBC, fronted by Peaky Blinders and Gentleman Jack star Sophie Rundle and Line of Duty actor Martin Compston.
The five-episode series, titled The Nest, will follow the story of a wealthy married couple (played by Rundle and Compston) who appear to have everything – except for a baby.
After trying for years, a teenager called Kaya (played by newcomer Mirren Mack in her TV debut) walks into their lives and agrees to be their surrogate, so they believe their prayers have been answered. However, it transpires that Kaya's life is far from charmed, and all may not be as fated as it seems.
Filming is set to start soon in Glasgow, with Game of Thrones' Kate Dickie and Samuel Small, Hatton Garden star David Hayman and Stan & Ollie actress Shirley Henderson also joining the cast, along with Fiona Bell, James Harkness, Bailey Patrick and Katie Leung.
"I’m absolutely delighted to join the cast of The Nest," Compston said. "Nicole Taylor is one of the most exciting and original voices in writing today, I’m chuffed we’re finally working together.
"Combined with filming in Glasgow and going back onto BBC One in my native west coast accent makes it a dream scenario."
Nicole Taylor, writer and executive producer, added: "I am overjoyed to be filming in my hometown of Glasgow with a cast I have long dreamt of writing for.
"Martin, Sophie, Kate, Shirley, James, David… they’ve all been chatting away in my head for years as I've been writing (unbeknownst to them!) so I could not be more proud that they have agreed to join The Nest and make these characters real."
