16-year-old actor Logan Williams died from a fentanyl overdose earlier this year, it has been confirmed.

His mother Marlyse Williams revealed the news during a recent chat with The New York Post, saying she wanted to raise awareness of the issue: "His death is not going to be in vain. He's going to help a lot of people down the road."

Logan had apparently been a user of cannabis in his early teens, while Marlyse revealed that as he discovered other drugs he "was in complete denial because he was so ashamed."

"I did everything humanly possible – everything a mother could do. I did everything but handcuff him to me to try to keep him safe."

After first learning of Logan's tragic death, his The Flash co-star Grant Gustin shared a tribute on social media.

"Just hearing the devastating news that Logan Williams has passed away suddenly," he wrote alongside an Instagram photo of the pair with actor Jesse L Martin.

"This picture was early in the filming of The Flash pilot episode back in 2014. I was so impressed by not only Logan's talent but his professionalism on set. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and his family during what is I'm sure an unimaginably difficult time for them.

"Please keep Logan and his family in your thoughts and prayers during what has been a strange and trying time for us all. Sending love to everyone."

According to the most recent report made by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 67,000 people died from an opioid overdose in 2018 — the numbers amongst teenagers continue to rise.
