London Bridge attacker's sister ‘sacked from her job at Heathrow Airport’ over security fears

The sister of one of the London Bridge attackers has been sacked from her job at Heathrow Airport over security fears, it has been reported.

Khuram Butt (pictured above, right) killed eight people in the terror attack last month, alongside his accomplices Rachid Redouane and Youssef Zaghba. All three were shot dead by police.

Butt, 27, had previously appeared in a Channel 4 documentary, The Jihadis Next Door, and had worked on the London Underground for six months.

His older sister, Haleema Butt (pictured above, left), 28, has been suspended from her job working security at Heathrow, the Daily Mirror reported.

The mother-of-two started the job two months before her brother took part in the terrorist attack in London.

She was suspended along with her husband, Usman Darr, who also worked on security. He had been in his job for a number of years.

When asked to comment by the newspaper at her home in Harrow, north-west London, she said: ‘You should take it up with Heathrow.’

There is no suggestion that Ms Butt or her husband are extremists or knew what Butt was planning, the newspaper reported. The terrorist’s family are said to have had their lives turned upside down because of what he did.

The three attackers drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing revellers in Borough Market.

Col Hamish de Bretton Gordon, former head of chemical weapons for the British Army and NATO, told the Daily Mirror: ‘Security roles at places such as Heathrow are critical – these are the people stopping terrorists putting bombs on planes.

‘We need to be doing more to check the names of employees against terror watch lists.

‘We can’t suggest this sister is in any way sympathetic to her brother’s views, but there have been enough terror cases where relatives have been acting together for the need for these checks to be done.

‘Manchester and London Bridge have shown us we just can’t take risks.’

A Heathrow spokesman said: ‘Heathrow took appropriate action in close cooperation with the authorities in relation to two colleagues employed at the airport.’
