Loose Women panellist Kelle Bryan has said that Prince William and Kate Middleton should apologise for slavery.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently went on a tour of the Caribbean where they were met with protests relating to the royal family's historic links to the slave trade.

In a discussion of the royal trip, Bryan said William and Kate have "missed the mark" and "didn't read the room".

The former Eternal singer added: "What we’re looking for is an apology."

Bryan answered by saying: "Let’s forget about politics then, let’s say what’s right and wrong. Is slavery right or wrong? It’s wrong."

She continued: "Just have that admission of saying 'It’s wrong and we’re sorry for what happened.' That’s actually what we’re looking for, forget about the politics, just say if it’s right or wrong."

At the end of the tour, Prince William gave a speech in which he expressed his "profound sorrow" for the crimes of slavery but Bryan said that it wasn't good enough.

She said: "The words that came out of his mouth were not 'I’m sorry'."

Following their tour around Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize, Prince William said the future of the monarchy in those countries is "for the people to decide upon".

He also reiterated that he was "committed to service" and that the royal family was not there to tell people "what to do".

His statement also said: "But we have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with communities in all three countries, understanding more about the issues that matter most to them."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge faced protests and criticism throughout the duration of the tour. One visit to a village in Belize was cancelled after locals protested over the monarchy's ties to the slave trade.
