Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie Smith joined the Celebrity Googlebox team last month and the pair said it really good fun to film.

Speaking on White Wine Question Time, Kelly said they got asked to do it out of the blue, but it’s been like an extension of their lockdown binge watching.

“It's fun, sitting there on the sofa; me and Rosie and Ruby obviously, Rosie’s puppy,” she told podcast host Kate Thornton.

“It's just like what we were doing when we were binge watching Game of Thrones. And it's been great to spend so much more time together as well, because we get a chance to do that too, which is really good.”

It’s not only the chance to spend time with her daughter that’s been great for Kelly – the Googlebox team also provide some very important extras.

“They bring treats!” she exclaimed.

“They bring snacks and rosé wine. It’s fantastic. They turn up and there’s a hamper and they put this hamper on your kitchen table and then say help yourself.”

Smith revealed that there was also another essential item that the team brought with them.

“They bring their own telly,” said the 27-year-old.

She continued: “We haven't done it before Covid, so I don't know what it was like before and how they did it but there's no crew in the house at all, so you very much feel like you're just in your living room watching TV, which is what you’re doing.”

While Kelly said it’s been a chance to watch different shows, there’s one she won’t be in a hurry to watch again – Channel 4’s Naked Attraction.

“No, I don't think I'll be watching that again,” she laughed.

“It was hilarious, and we laughed our heads off and it was absolutely ridiculous. There are some bonkers shows, and that's been the joy of it, that we’ve watched things that that we probably wouldn't have.”

Another joy for Kelly is that she gets to enjoy lots of cuddles with Smith’s Mini wire-haired dachshund, Ruby, who also has a place on the sofa during the show.

“I can't let go of her, honestly it's ridiculous,” she laughed.

“It's great because she just falls asleep in front of the telly, so I just grab her and do let her go. And then Rosie goes away, and I keep hold of her and say ‘Bye!’ hoping that Rosie will forget about her, but she never does.”

Kelly was reunited with her only child at the end of 2020, when Smith moved back from Singapore where she’d been living and working for a while. She says as well as being glad that she’s home, hanging out with her daughter keeps her young, something she really embraces.

“One of the things about the pandemic as well, has been sitting down and watching things together that I probably wouldn't have watched on the telly,” she explained to Thornton.

“I would never have discovered the joy and euphoria of Below Deck — and waiting for another chance to binge. And music as well. I mean, Rosie listens to some really out-there stuff and you know, when we're in the car, she plays it and it's really good. Then I can say to her ‘Do you want to listen to the Human League? Or The Cure? Or The Clash?’ People that I grew up with.”

The pair haven’t just been working together on Celebrity Googlebox, they also recently launched a podcast, What If? that explores sliding door moments with various celebrities. For Kelly, it’s been a real learning curve working with her daughter.

“I've learned I've learned a lot an awful lot from Rosie,” she admitted.

“I mean, she says she's learned a lot from me, but I don't know that she has, but I've certainly learned a lot from her and not just her style of talking, presenting, having a conversation… but also cultural things.”
