Lorraine Kelly's biggest regret is not having more children.

The 61-year-old television presenter has one daughter Rosie Smith - who she hosts new podcast ‘What If?' alongside - with her husband Steve Smith, a TV cameraman, but she wishes that she'd had more kids but it wasn't possible because she got pregnant with Rosie later in life.

When asked by BANG Showbiz what her biggest regret in life is, Lorraine - who has worked on the ITV breakfast line-up in some form since 1984 - said: "Probably not having more kids. You know, I’d have loved to have more kids, but it just wasn’t for me. By the time we sort of thought about it I was in my late 40s. We were very lucky to have one very happy girl, so that was that.”

One of the first milestones in Lorraine's broadcasting career was being the Scotland correspondent for 'TV-am' and covering the 1988 terrorist bombing in the Scottish town of Lockerbie, being involved in the launches of 'GMTV', 'Daybreak' and her own show 'Lorraine' in 2010.

Her 26-year-old daughter Rosie - a journalist who before the coronavirus pandemic lived in Singapore - was born in 1995. Her relocation back to the UK allowed the mother-daughter duo to start collaborating together on projects.

Their first joint endeavour was starring on Channel 4’s 'Celebrity Gogglebox', which the broadcaster said she and Rose were “big fans” of. However, as Lorraine herself admitted was just “sitting and watching telly”, they still had time to come up with a winning podcast formula with ‘What If?’, which each week Lorraine and Rosie quizzing celebrities about “their lives, and their career, their hopes and their dreams".

Regrets are a big theme in Lorraine’s podcast as each episode ends with guests - which have included ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ judge Michelle Visage, comedian Eddie Izzard and astronaut Tim Peake, among many others - being asked what their biggest regrets, fails and wins are throughout their otherwise successful careers. Upcoming guests include the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who the pair found out was in the running to be James Bond after Sir Sean Connery's tenure as 007 was over.

Despite it might be smaller than she hoped, Lorraine said her “biggest win” was her “supportive” family; namechecking her husband Steve, Rosie and her border collie and Rosie’s new pup Ruby. She expressed gratitude for “having a really supportive family because I couldn’t do what I do without” them.

For her “biggest fail”, Lorraine scolded herself for “not keeping up with her languages” and said being able to learn any she wanted instantly would be her dream “super power.”

She explained: “I would want my superpower to be able to understand everybody in whatever language they were speaking. Can you imagine how amazing the world would be if we could all speak to each other in another language, the barriers would be broken down, right?”
