Lucifer's had two bonus episodes which aired after the season 3 finale, but where do they fit in the series' timeline?

We finally have an answer, courtesy of co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson.

Speaking to TVLine, the duo shared that they originally considered making 'Boo Normal' and 'Once Upon a Time' part of the fourth season, but that didn't work out.

"We did talk for a long time about incorporating them [in season 4], and we just decided that it would almost be a disservice to both the longer story and to the episodes themselves," Modrovich explained.

Henderson said that 'Boo Normal' – which sees Ella (Aimee Garcia) visited by Rae-Rae (Charlyne Yi), a 'ghost' who eventually reveals herself to be Azrael – could be watched between episode 15 and 16 in season 3.

"Right before we bring Abel back to life," he explained. "I think it fits really nicely in there as a fun exploration-of-Ella episode."

As for 'Once Upon a Time' – a standalone episode which takes place in an alternate timeline where Chloe's (Lauren German) father is still alive – its place after the season 3 finale makes sense.

"'Once Upon a Time' fits nicely exactly where it is, as almost like a calm before the storm, a nice little digression," Henderson said.

The fourth season launched on Netflix earlier this month, and right now, those involved with the show are waiting to find out whether or not it will be renewed.

Stars Tom Ellis and Lauren German recently expressed their hope that a season 5 will happen.

Lucifer is available to watch now on Netflix.
