Yahoo News Luke Cage star and John Cho land lead roles in Netflix's Cowboy Bebop series
A few months on from Netflix's shock cancellation of Marvel's Luke Cage, another star of the series has now lined up their next role.
Mustafa Shakir, who played Bushmaster in season 2 of the hit show, will be swapping the side of evil with the side of the not-so-bad guys as he joins the cast of Netflix's live-action version of Cowboy Bebop.
The series, which is based on the popular Japanese anime, follows a ragtag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system's most dangerous criminals.

Shakir will play Jet Black, Captain of the Bebop and jazz enthusiast, who was one of the few honest cops left in the solar system before a betrayal robbed him of all he loved and he was forced into a vagabond life as a bounty hunter to survive, Variety reports.
Commenting on the news on his Instagram page, Shakir shared his excitement at being involved with the series, joking that he'd had to keep quiet about the new casting for a while.
"I only had to be silent about it for half a century!" he began. "I get to play JET BLACK captain of the Bebop. A futuristic bounty hunter from outer space. Spot the f**k on. Full Stop.
"I am so delighted to work with these guys. Cast is dreamy. Jazz, justifiable violence, space, worm holes, and multiculturalism, my type of party. Let’s JAM!!!!!"
He'll be joined by Star Trek film star John Cho as Spike Spiegel, who's described as an impossibly-cool bounty hunter with a deadly smile and a wry wit. Spike travels the solar system with Jet and the pair pursue the future's most dangerous bounties using their charm, charisma and Jeet Kune Do.
Also joining the cast is Danielle Pineda, playing the bold, brash and unpredictable Faye Valentine, while Alex Hassell will play Vicious, Spike's ex-partner and arch-enemy, a notorious hitman, and a man described as someone who enjoys a good kill.
Shakir's Luke Cage co-stars Mike Colter and Simone Missick have both previously confirmed new roles following the cancellation of the Netflix series.
