Madonna announces global tour marking 40th anniversary of debut album

Madonna has announced a global tour which will feature four decades of her greatest hits.

Madonna: The Celebration Tour will visit 35 cities, kicking off in Vancouver in Canada on July 15 with stops across North America before arriving in Europe where the pop star will perform in 11 cities throughout autumn.

The tour will include a performance at The O2 in London on October 14, as well as shows in Barcelona, Paris and Stockholm.

Tickets are due to go on sale on January 20 from Madonna’s official website.

Madonna, 64, will celebrate her 40th anniversary of her self-titled debut album, which catapulted her to superstardom, as she embarks on her worldwide string of shows.

A new skit video featuring Amy Schumer, Lil Wayne and Jack Black in promotion of Madonna’s upcoming tour was shared on her Instagram on Tuesday, with the caption: “Come join the party!"

The Papa Don’t Preach singer said in a statement following the tour announcement: "I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for."

Madonna’s global concert was announced in signature dramatic fashion as her skit video shared on Instagram was played on big screens in London.

Following her debut release 40 years ago, Madonna has gone on to become one of the biggest-selling artists of all time.

She has a UK record of having the most Number 1 singles than any other female artist, at 13, and has 12 Number 1 albums.

Madonna has collaborated with several other iconic music acts, including Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, and released her first Greatest Hits album The Immaculate Collection in 1990, selling around 30 million.

The Like A Virgin artist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.

The icon was described during the ceremony as “the record-setting, line-crossing, sexuality-flaunting, ever-evolving Material Girl", who is remains “larger-than-life”.
