The sequel to Mamma Mia! has expanded its cast.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! – which was announced earlier this year, nine years after the release of the original movie – is bringing in Alexa Davies and Jeremy Irvine as two very familiar characters, albeit in a different decade.

Davies is playing a young version of Rosie (Julie Walters), according to Deadline.

She has appeared in TV shows such as Harlots, Detectorists, Cradle to Grave and Raised by Wolves.

Meanwhile, Irvine is taking on the role of a young Sam (Pierce Brosnan).

He has featured in movies such as War Horse and The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death.

Dominic Cooper, reprising the part of Sky (Sophie's love interest) in the sequel, recently told Digital Spy that the follow-up to the box office hit musical is not a cash-in and is most definitely worth the long wait.

"I thought it was going to resurface much more quickly than this, but what's great is that they've waited," he said. "They haven't just immediately thrown another one out there on the back of the success of the last one.

"They've waited for a script to come along that makes sense and is fun and is gonna be as exciting for fans of the original, and that's really important."
