Joseph Anthony Castellanos faces a string of charges

A US man has been arrested for pouring hot sauce and ranch dressing on his girlfriend before trying to put her in the oven.

Joseph Anthony Castellanos, 31, was angry when his girlfriend failed to come and visit him at work, allegedly doling out a string of punishments as a result.

Castellanos, from Sandy, Utah, was arrested at around 2am on 10 July, accused of punching, kicking and stabbing his live-in girlfriend, among other charges.

According to the police report, the abuse began at about 9.30pm on 9 July, when Castellanos arrived home feeling “upset because [she] had not visited him while he had been at work”.

Police say he spent the next two-and-a-half hours punching and kicking the woman, stabbing her in the head and body with a fork and threatening to kill her.

He also urinated on her and struck her with a belt, as well as pouring the hot sauce and ranch dressing on her before trying to put her in the oven.

The woman struggled with Castellanos however, and he was only able to get her feet inside the oven. It’s not known if the oven was switched on.

In addition, the woman’s dog was also kicked and stomped on by Castellanos, who also damaged a laptop and at least two mobile phones.

The woman was eventually able to flee to the bathroom where she called the police from a hidden mobile phone. Officers reported that she was “bloody and bruised” by the assault.

Castellanos is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated cruelty to animals and intentional criminal mischief.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in Friday’s incident, and detectives were also investigating a possible prior aggravated assault against the woman on June 12.
