Man set to appear in court after being charged with sexual assault

A CARLISLE man is to appear in court this morning after being charged with sexual assault.

Detectives have been investigating an incident when a woman was grabbed from behind by a man in Carlisle City Centre.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 30.

Terry Lewis, 41, of Warwick Road has been charged with sexual assault.

Detective Sergeant Lee Brumpton said: "This is a serious offence and officers and detectives have acted swiftly in making an arrest.

"I’d like to thank those people who have come forward and assisted detectives with our enquiries."

He has been remanded in police custody prior to attending Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today.

Detective Constable Anthony Wheatcroft added: "We continue to urge anyone who was in the vicinity and has information but has yet to make themselves known to come forward."
