Marvel's Doctor Strange star Chiwetel Ejiofor and No Time to Die's Naomie Harris join forces in the first look at Showtime's TV adaptation of The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Based on the 1963 book by Walter Tevis, The Man Who Fell to Earth follows Faraday (Ejiofor), an alien who is left attempting to understand his purpose after landing on Earth at a pivotal moment in history.

As Faraday must confront his own past to determine our future, he soon meets a human named Justin Falls (Harris), and it's not long before the pair team up to try and help Faraday do whatever he has been sent to do.

"My mission is your mission," Faraday tells Justin.

Alongside Ejiofor and Harris, the new series also stars Jimmi Simpson as Spencer Clay, Clarke Peters as Josiah Falls, Rob Delaney as Hatch Flood, Sonya Cassidy as Edie Flood, Joana Ribeiro as Lisa Dominguez and Annelle Olayele as Molly Falls.

Star Trek: Voyager's Kate Mulgrew and Harry Potter's Josh Herdman are also both set to feature in recurring roles while Star Trek: Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman serves as one of the showrunners of the series, which was first announced in August 2019.

The Man Who Fell to Earth was previously adapted into a movie in 1976, starring David Bowie as the titular alien, Thomas Jerome Newton.

This new reimagining will offer a different take on the source material, however, with Kurtzman previously teasing that the new TV series will serve as more of a sequel than a remake.

"It's a new alien, a new character, a whole new situation, but it definitely holds true to the spirit of what [Walter] Tevis was doing in the novel," Kurtzman explained (via TV Line).

"It also allows us to really explore where we are at this insane intersection between our humanity and our technology, and they seem to be merging more and more these days.

"All the great sci-fi ends up predicting the future, if you look at all the things that really lasted, and Walter Tevis did that."

The Man Who Fell to Earth will premiere on Showtime in the US this Spring. A UK broadcaster has yet to be confirmed.
