ITV has unveiled the new costumes and characters for the second series of The Masked Dancer, including the show's first dancing duo.

A selection of famous celebrity faces will be hidden behind a dozen costumes as they dance for the judging panel, who subsequently try to guess their identity.

Comedian Joel Dommett — who also hosts the hugely popular The Masked Singer — fronts the show, with Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Oti Mabuse returning as judges.

They will be joined on the panel by England football legend Peter Crouch, who replaces Mo Gilligan due to the comedian's touring commitments.

Among this year's participants will be the mail-inspired Pillar and Post, competing as a pair in the show's first two-person costume.

Other outlandish costumes include Odd Socks, Scissors and Onomatopoeia, whose presumably high-energy routines will go along with the comic book sounds adorning their outfit.

There are a number of animal-themed characters this year, including the colourfully-dressed Pig, the bizarre Sea Slug and Pearly King — a lion wearing a sparkly suit inspired by the historic Pearly King tradition in the UK.

In case those costumes aren't enough to whet the appetite, there's also a dancing pair of scissors, a bundle of odd socks and a cactus wearing a superhero cape.

The Masked Dancer first aired on UK screens in 2021, following the runaway success of The Masked Singer, which had attained huge ratings with its first series in early 2020.

Olympic gymnast Louis Smith won the first series of the dancing show as Carwash, finishing ahead of Bonnie Langford as Squirrel and Take That star Howard Donald as Zip.

The Masked Singer, meanwhile, has been given the green light for a fourth and fifth series after 6.3 million viewers watched Natalie Imbruglia win the 2022 series.

The Aussie singer performed as Panda, finishing ahead of Charlotte Church as Mushroom and Westlife's Mark Feehily in the fan favourite Robobunny outfit.
