I May Destroy You's Paapa Essiedu will become trapped in a time-travel paradox in new Sky series The Lazarus Project.

The latest TV drama from Giri/Haji writer Joe Barton plunges main character George's (Essiedu) life into chaos when he wakes up one day to find key moments from his life have been erased and he's been planted several months in the past.

George is recruited into a secret agency known as Lazarus Project by the mysterious Archie (Vigil's Anjli Mohindra) to help with a mission to stop the world from being destroyed.

After a freak accident harms someone close to George, however, Lazarus won't let him turn back time to undo it – unless there is the threat of global extinction – and George risks ruining their quest as he must choose to stay loyal or go rogue to save his loved one.

The eight-part Sky Original is coming this spring on Sky Max and NOW with a cast that also includes The Split's Rudi Dharmalingam and Strictly Come Dancing's Caroline Quentin as members of the Lazarus Project.

The Musketeers star Tom Burke has also joined the series to play the maniacal Rebrov, an international criminal bent on destroying the world with a nuclear bomb.

The project is a reunion for Tom Burke and Paapa Essiedu, after they'd previously starred in the Channel 4 thriller series Utopia.

The Lazarus Project writer Joe Barton has plenty of experience in various genres, having worked on the likes of sci-fil series Humans, historical epic Troy: Fall of a City and crime thriller Giri/Haji.
