Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that his creative team is working on greater representation for the LGBTQ+ spectrum within the MCU.

Last month, advocacy group GLAAD released a damning report about LGBTQ+ representation in Marvel and DC movies, specifically singling out Wonder Woman, Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2.

It had been reported that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi cut a frame of a woman leaving the female character Valkyrie's bedroom so it wouldn't distract from that scene's "exposition" - a decision that GLAAD specifically criticised.

The film also did not include reference to the character Korg being bisexual, as he is traditionally depicted in the pages of Marvel Comics.

"This film disappointingly did not include any references to their identities or love interests, and as such, audiences would have no clue they were seeing queer characters unless they had read outside press or the source material stories," GLAAD said in its recent report.

ThePlaylist put the issue of LGBTQ+ representation to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, and he acknowledged that there is at least one existing character within the MCU that identifies within the spectrum.

Feige also confirmed that his writers and producers are developing a project for a new character that identified as LGBTQ+, adding: "[We have] both ones you've seen and ones you haven't seen.

The producer would say say no more about which characters he was referring to. Recently, Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson expressed hopes that she'd be able to revisit her character's bisexuality in a future film, after having it cut in Thor: Ragnarok.
