Michael Anderson dead: Tributes paid to Logan's Run and Dam Busters director after he dies aged 98

Tributes have been paid to the legendary film director Michael Anderson, following his death on Wednesday at the age of 98.

Mr Anderson was best known for his 1955 epic The Dam Busters, his award-winning version of Around the World in 80 Days, and the 1976 sci-fi classic Logan's Run.

Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright led the tributes online, writing: "RIP to Michael Anderson who, among his many credits, directed WWII classic 'Dam Busters', 'The Quiller Memorandum' and the highly memorable 'Logan's Run'.

"He died at 98 which means his life lasted over three times longer than the poor citizens who tapped out at 30."

The 'carousel' is a reference to a fictional ritual featured in Logan's Run involving spiritual reincarnation.

The Walking Dead actress Laurie Holden also paid tribute, saying: "I will miss him every day. He was the kindest human being I've ever known in my life.

"He taught me to be more compassionate and to embrace a higher spiritual self through his example. He blessed my life. I am forever grateful for his love and guidance."

Comedian Chris Gore added: "I know [Logan's Run] doesn't hold up for some, but it remains a classic and a personal favourite. Groundbreaking for its time.

"It left a huge impression on me. I hope he renews on carousel. RIP (Renew In Peace)."

At the time of his death, he was the oldest living nominee for the Academy Award for best director, and the only surviving director to win the award in the 1950s.
