Sir Michael Caine's daughter has been banned from driving, despite claiming she needed her car to help care for the actor.

Dominique Caine, 65, received a six month driving ban for speeding, despite her plea that losing her driving licence would make it very difficult to travel from Gloucestershire to London to help look after her 89-year-old actor father.

Her defence lawyer James Findon told the judge: "The issue isn't financial. The issue is the flexibility with which she is able to assist in providing care for her father.

"She provides care to her father, who is based in London. If she was deprived of her ability to drive it would necessitate the use of three trains and two buses. The travel time would be in excess of eight hours."

Dominique already had nine points on her licence when she admitted driving 64mph in a 50mph zone at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court.

She was handed a further three points, taking her to the maximum of 12, and received a six month driving ban and a fine of £200 plus costs of £90 and a surcharge of £34.

Sir Michael's wife submitted a letter of support to the court as part of the defence case.

Judge Wattam asked: "Are we dealing with a famous name? I have a number of letters of support from Shakira Caine. Therefore are we talking about Sir Michael?"

He later concluded: "I am unable to find exceptional hardship in your case and therefore I must disqualify you from driving for the next six months."

Dominique is Sir Michael's daughter from his first marriage to actor Patricia Haines. He and wife Shakira also share a daughter, Natasha.

Sir Michael has used a walking stick for several years but is not know to have any other health problems and is still a working actor.

In October 2021, he tweeted: "I haven't retired and not a lot of people know that".

The Hollywood veteran sparked rumours he had giving up acting after speaking to Kermode and Mayo's Film Review on BBC Radio 5 Live about his role in Best Sellers.

He said: "Funnily enough, it has turned out to be my last part, really. Because I haven’t worked for two years, and I have a spine problem which affects my leg, so I can’t walk very well."

Last year he appeared in Czech action historical drama Medieval, the most expensive Czech film ever made, directed by former Judo champion Petr Jákl.
