Mick Fleetwood on the future of Fleetwood Mac: ‘I’d say we’re done’

Mick Fleetwood has seemingly confirmed that Fleetwood Mac are “done” following the death of Christine McVie last year.

The drummer commented on the band’s future while attending last night’s 65th Grammy Awards, where he performed ‘Songbird’ – which was written by McVie – alongside Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt during the show’s In Memoriam segment.

Speaking to the LA Times on the Grammy red carpet, Fleetwood explained it was hard to envisage a future for the group after McVie’s passing.

“I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris (McVie),” Fleetwood explained. “I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

He went on to confirm that the rest of the band were focusing on individual musical projects, adding: “They all get out and play, so I’m gonna be doing the same thing, finding people to play with.”

In a separate interview with Access Hollywood, he admitted it was currently “unthinkable” to perform as Fleetwood Mac, but said that “stranger things have happened” when it came to a potential reunion.

The band’s last tour, An Evening with Fleetwood Mac, took place across 2018 and 2019 and included two nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Fleetwood’s tribute at last night’s show comes after he shared a eulogy from McVie’s memorial service earlier this month.

“Again, it was our Christine who gifted so much to millions around the world,” Fleetwood said in his eulogy, posted on Instagram. “She is being remembered Everywhere. Just as her song says, ‘I want to be with you everywhere,‘ and she is.”
