Determined mobility scooter user spotted driving through floodwaters in Sheffield

A video of a mobility scooter user bravely driving through flood waters in Sheffield has become a viral internet sensation.

Stephanie Jubb captured the moment the older woman driving the assistance vehicle ploughed through deep water on Chesterfield Road in the Woodseats area of the city.

Residents in communities across northern England have been subjected to “almost biblical” weather over the last 24 hours.

Sheffield is one of the worst affected areas, with the city engulfed by dangerous conditions since Thursday afternoon.

The 25-year-old pharmacy dispenser said she captured the moment by chance, after the woman drove past while she filmed the floodwater building up in the city.

Ms Jubb told PA: “The woman just started driving and we were like ‘she’s not gonna do it, she’s not gonna do it’ and then she just carried on.

“She didn’t even lift her legs up or anything.”

After a quick trip to the shops the brave woman later returned via the same route - and raced back through the flooding.

Ms Jubb continued: “She’s come back through it with her shopping bags, but we didn’t get that on tape.

“The people up north are quite strong. They just carry on doing their daily thing.”

Rain in Sheffield and other parts of South and West Yorkshire, as well as the Midlands, left streets like rivers and some routes impassable.

The wet weather forced motorists to abandon their cars as residents evacuated homes and businesses due to dangerous water levels.

On Thursday, the Met Office releasing amber weather warnings, which were in place until Friday.

On Friday, the body of a woman was recovered from flood water in North East Derbyshire after the banks of the River Derwent burst.
