The works of Jane Austen are getting a modern comedic twist in a new show heading to the West End in London.

Austentacious is a completely improvised show that will have three appearances at the Piccadilly Theatre following a successful run at Edinburgh Fringe.

Each performance sees a group of comics who use their skills and audience interaction to create a 'lost' Austen novel, based on a title suggested by the audience.

The cast includes Cariad Lloyd, whose TV credits include Toast of London, Inside No.9 and Murder in Successville, and Andrew Hunter Murray, one of the QI Elves and co-host of BBC Two's No Such Thing As the News.

Performers are on stage in full Regency costume to give it that authentic Austen feel, along with musical accompaniment.

Previous performances have included The Sixth Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Shark and Double O Darcy, so this is far from your average English Literature class.

The West End shows are part of a nationwide tour which is running from September 22 to November 23.

Following news of the shows, the Austentacious cast and crew said: "Where better to spend the night with one's most favourite and wittiest friends than at the Piccadilly Theatre? Let literary mischief commence...."

Austentacious will be at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End on December 5, 2017, January 23, 2018 and February 13, 2018. Tickets for the tour go on sale on Thursday, September 14.
