Mom star Jaime Pressly is set to re-team with co-executive producer Susan McMartin for a new comedy being developed on CBS.

The actress, who played Jill Kendall on the hit sitcom, will also executive produce The Porch, which is based on her own idea and written by McMartin.

According to Deadline, the series will focus on the recently divorced LJ (Pressly), as she returns to the small North Carolina island she was always desperate to leave to bury her mother, who she couldn't stand.

However, LJ finds herself staying longer than she planned, and reconnects with the 'porch' folks she never felt a part of, as well as falling in love with her late trainwreck of a mother for the first time.

Mom ran for eight seasons before coming to an end earlier this year, having starred Pressly alongside Alison Janney and Anna Faris.

However, Faris exited as Christy Plunkett before the final season as her character realised her dream of attending law school and accepted a full scholarship at Georgetown Law School in Washington DC.

Despite speculation that she would come back for the show's final episode, the actress didn't return, with show co-creator Gemma Baker explaining it was "important to honour [Faris'] decision to leave the show".

"The audience knows that Christy travelled a great distance over seven seasons and overcame so many obstacles in order to follow her dream of becoming a lawyer, and it felt like that story had been addressed in a satisfying way, so we didn't revisit it for the finale."

Explaining why Christy was only addressed as Bonnie's (Janney) "daughter" in the finale, Baker added: "The way she was mentioned casually indicates that Bonnie and Christy are very much still in contact, and that that relationship has really healed."

Mom aired on CBS in the US.
