This Morning fans slam 'calling your kids pretty' chat
This Morning viewers were left raging following a controversial debate suggesting that parents shouldn't call their children pretty.
Speaking to Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, one panelist felt that praising children based on their looks could cause issues in the future.
And it’s a wrap! Thank you for many years of fun, @thismorning @RuthieeL @EamonnHolmes xx 👋🏻📺😍 pic.twitter.com/EfnCvabca6

Eamonn felt that saying positive things is surely better than the alternative: "It's better, even if it's a lie, to think the good bit, rather than the bad bit."
One panelist, who felt praising looks could cause issues, explained: "I don't know whether I agree to tell a lie is better than the truth, I'm not saying not to tell your children that they're pretty, but for me it's about that not being the main focus.
"So with my daughter she's six-years-old, and yes, she's pretty, but I don't feel I need to tell her that every day. I don't think that's a priority when I'm praising her, I'd rather praise her for what she does, who she is, the decision she makes or her achievements at school."
Eamonn then flagged that most young kids are obsessed with taking their own pictures and seeking approval on social media.
She also flagged that a girl-guiding report found that seven to ten-year-old girls felt that they're judged on their looks, rather than their achievements.
"My mother told me everyday how pretty I was, it didn't mean that I thought I was pretty, I grew up thinking that I wasn't pretty. It doesn't equate that if you say someone is pretty, they're going to grow up thinking that."
Meanwhile viewers on social media became incensed on the topic and felt they should be able to call their children pretty if they want to.
Who’d seriously sit on national tv telling people not to tell their kids that they’re pretty! Honestly the worlds going mad #ThisMorning

“Should you tell your daughter she is pretty?”
YES, yes you bloody should. My daughter is beautiful to me, to her dad & she should class herself as beautiful too.
We are all about empowering one another & we ARE beautiful in our own unique ways so why the hell not? #ThisMorning- αmч (@amypruv) August 21, 2018
#ThisMorning tell your kids they're pretty. It's self confidence. Unless they've got a face like a bag of spanners. Then white lie.
