Ben Shephard called a halt to This Morning on Wednesday, as some 'distressing' breaking news came into the show, with the host looking alarmed by the 'shocking' pictures of escaped horses running through the streets of London, as a solider lay injured on the ground.
As they often do on the ITV daytime programme, Ben and co-host Cat Deeley began the live 150 minute broadcast with a chat about the day's top stories, as they were joined in the studio by guests Vanessa Feltz and Tom Strawbridge. They were in the middle of a discussion about a disgusting police WhatsApp message sent after the killings of students Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar in Nottingham last year, when Ben appeared to get word in his ear about news that had just come in.
Pausing the discussion, Ben interrupted "We're going to move onto some breaking news this morning. Shocking pictures have emerged of five escaped Household Cavalry horses. They were doing sort of their daily route through London and they have bolted."

The Tipping Point star went onto explain that photos had also emerged of a soldier lying injured on the street, adding "some of the horses have been very spooked. It's really shocking."
As more photos of the horses concerned appeared on screen, including one with blood all over its leg, a startled Cat reacted: "Wow," as Vanessa remarked: "This is very unusual. These are the best and most rigorously trained horses in the entire country and they are used to being on parade and this is a regular manoeuvre for them, so who knows what happened to frighten them? How awful, how sad for everyone."
As another update came in, Ben told his This Morning colleagues: "It's a very busy time in central London right now. They don't know what necessarily know what caused it. They've been spooked somehow and then they've bolted and they're desperately trying to get them under control."
