Woman hoaxed bomb threat then blamed rival mother for not inviting daughter to birthday party

A Jewish mother has been jailed after she phoned in a hoax bomb threat to a synagogue then tried to blame it on another parent for not inviting her daughter to a birthday party.

Claire Mann was described as “spiteful and malicious” after she bombarded Roz Page with abusive messages and then tried to trick police by sending similar texts to her own phone when her daughter didn’t get an invite to Mrs Page’s eight-year-old’s party.

Mrs Page was quizzed by police as the row escalated and ostracised by other parents after Mann, 43, told them the charge against her was “all made up”.

Mrs Page had claimed that she messaged Mann after she called her daughter “a bitch” for not inviting her child and insisted that the girl had actually been invited.

As part of her campaign, Mann phoned in a bomb threat at nearby synagogue and a hotel where Israelis were staying.

She left the phone on and it was traced by police to a cupboard in her home in Hendon, northwest London.

As police searched her house for it, she told them: “I did it, I did it. It’s a prank that’s gone wrong.”

Now Mann has been jailed for three years for the bomb hoax and harassing texts to herself and nine months for the family court matter, to be served concurrently.

Speaking after the sentence, Mrs Page said she was “relieved”, but that the damage could not be undone.

She said: “I’ve lost friends over this. I lost my position as chair of the PTA at the school over this.

"Throughout the whole case, I haven’t seen an ounce of remorse from her, which makes me think she’s not sorry.

"I do hope it’s the end, but knowing Claire and all the time she’s going to have in prison, I know she’ll be looking for revenge.”

Mann had pleaded with the judge not to send her to jail because of her 11-year-old daughter, adding that she had now been alienated in her community.

Her partner, David Bright, 48, was also jailed for a separate offence relating to false information provided in a family court custody hearing.

He was sentenced to 12 months for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
