The cast of The Nanny reunited for a virtual table reading on Zoom in hopes of raising the spirits of fans in isolation.

Fran Drescher, Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis and many more joined the call, which was broadcast on Monday by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Drescher stars as Fran Fine in the iconic Nineties sitcom, while Shaughnessy portrays Mr Sheffield and Davis plays butler Niles.

Also present for the virtual table reading were Lauren Lane (CC Babcock), Renée Taylor (Sylvia Fine), Nicholle Tom (Margaret Sheffield), Benjamin Salisbury (Benjamin Sheffield), Madeline Zima (Grace Sheffield), Rachel Chagall (Val Toriello), Jonathan Penner (Danny Imperialli), Dee Dee Rescher (Dotty), Alex Sternin (Eddie).

Ann Hampton Callaway, who wrote the show’s famous opening song, was present to perform the tune.

Peter Marc Jacobson, who co-created the programme with Drescher, was on hand to read stage directions and other relevant information.

The cast’s table reading was livened up with video excerpts from the pilot, helping to revive the show’s spirit.

In the pilot, Fran Fine, a recently fired and freshly single bridal store employee, turns up at the Sheffield residence hoping to sell cosmetics – only to wind up being hired as the nanny for Mr Sheffield’s three children.

The Nanny aired for six seasons between 1993 and 1999, chronicling the family’s antics as well as Fine and Sheffield’s growing romance.
