Netflix acquires all five seasons of Misfits

Robert Sheehan super-fans, take note: Misfits is landing on Netflix in September.

The cult comedy, which originally aired on Channel 4 between 2009 and 2014, followed a group of young offenders who found themselves gaining supernatural abilities after getting caught up in a storm.

Netflix announced the news on Twitter, urging fans of The Umbrella Academy, which stars Robert Sheehan, to give the series a go.

The streaming platform wrote “ROBERT SHEEHAN NEWS: If S2 of The Umbrella Academy didn’t scratch your itch, *all five* seasons of Misfits will be coming to Netflix UK on 15 September.”

Sheehan, who plays troubled séance Klaus Hargreeves in The Umbrella Academy, arguably had his breakout role playing the irritatingly cheeky but somewhat lovable rogue in Misfits – with immortality being his superpower.

He decided to leave the role after two series to pursue new opportunities.

Although he has since said it was a “challenge” for him to quit the role, Sheehan has since dismissed any idea of ever returning to Misfits even just as part of a cast reunion.

“No. It’s slightly troublesome, all your ‘nostalgia culture’ [and] the past looming larger than the future all the time,” he told Standard Online.

“You know, old Oscar Wilde goes 'Life unchanged, his life wasted' – I might be paraphrasing. We've all moved on and it's been over 10 years.”

Misfits also launched the careers of Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Utopia), Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones), Lauren Socha (Catastrophe), Antonia Thomas (Lovesick), as well as featuring Brassic star Joseph Gilgun in later series.

For those who feel they just cannot wait until next month to grab their next Misfits fix, the series is currently available as a boxset on All4.

Misfits will drop on Netflix UK on Tuesday 15th September
