Netflix unveils trailer for horror miniseries The I-Land with Fyre Festival parallels

Netflix has released the first trailer for new horror series The I-Land, which appears to have parallels with the infamous Fyre Festival controversy.

The programme will star Kate Bosworth and Natalie Martinez as they wake up on a deceptively beautiful island, with the earlier montages directly mimicking the now infamous commercial used to advertise the 2017 chaotic festival in the Bahamas.

The series is described as an “immersive experience” and a “mind-bending limited series event” in the trailer, which charts how a festival descends into violence.

An official synopsis for the show reads: “When ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home.

“They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the I-Land’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves – or die as their worst ones.”

The rest of the cast also includes Alex Pettyfer, Ronald Peet, Kyle Schmid, Kota Eberhardt, Sibylla Deen, Anthony Lee Medina, Gilles Geary, and Michelle Veintimilla.

Fyre Festival was intended as a luxurious music festival running on Pablo Escobar's private island in the Bahamas for two weekends in April and May 2017 but turned out to be a disaster.

Guests were met with bubble tents instead of top quality accomodation and were provided with cheese sandwiches in polythene trays rather than a luxury food court.

The debacle was the subject of a Netflix documentary released earlier this year.

The I-Land is available to stream on Netflix from 12 September.
