Nicola Walker, Alun Armstrong and Maggie Steed will star in the world premiere of Mark Ravenhill’s new play The Cane at the Royal Court.

The theatre’s artistic director Vicky Featherstone will direct the show in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from December 6 to January 26, with design by Chloe Lamford and lighting design Natasha Chivers.

The Cane tells the story of Edward, a dedicated teacher of 45 years who is soon to retire. When a group of angry students surround his house and a brick is thrown through the window, Edward wonders why they would want to attack the school’s most popular teacher.

Ravenhill’s previous productions at the theatre include Shopping & F***ing, Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat and Product.

There will be a post-show talk with Featherstone and Ravenhill on December 28.
