North Korea may be putting itself front and centre in the quest for peace with other nations but brutal executions are believed to still be taking place.

Sources inside the notoriously secretive state say that a top army general has been executed by firing squad – because he gave his troops and their families extra food.

According to the source, the alleged victim is Lieutenant General of the People’s Army Hyon Ju Song.

He was apparently shot to death at a firing range at the Kang Son Military Academy in Pyongyang.

The source told Daily NK that Hyon decided to hand out food as the country ‘no longer has to suffer and tighten our belts to make rockets or nuclear weapons’ following commitments towards denuclearisation.

The source added: ‘He gave instructions to send out one tonne of fuel, 580 kg of rice, and 750 kg of corn to military officers at the Launching Station and their families.

‘This was considered an anti-Party act violating the Ten Principles for the Establishment of the Party’s One Ideology System.’

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was said to have personally ordered the execution after learning of Hyon’s actions.

Kim is quotes as saying: ‘The ideological poisoning that is personal idolization is corrupting the chief personnel in the People’s Army. We must nip the bud of ideological poisoning.’

Hyon was reportedly killed by 90 rounds of bullets fire by nine death row inmates, military police and members of the armed forces.
