Almost a decade after the iconic show ended, The Office US co-stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have taken fans behind the scenes of the award-winning series and revealed that while filming the season nine episode 'Work Bus', the cast were 'almost killed'.

The pair released a book titled The Office BFFs: Tales of the Office From Two Best Friends together earlier this month, full of stories and insight into what it was like working on the show. But one story in particular has caught fans attention.

'Work Bus', or rather 'Death Bus' as the actors dubbed it, was written by Kinsey and directed by none other than Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston. Fans will recall the episode in which Jim (John Krasinski) attempts to get his wife Pam (Fisher) a day off.

He convinces Dwight (Rainn Wilson) that the office needs repairs, but instead of sending everyone home, Dwight creates a mobile office out of a bus, which was crammed full with office supplies, actors and crew.

Kinsey, who played Angela on the show, explained: "It was a very hot day and whenever we started filming, the air-conditioning on the bus had to be turned off because it was too noisy. We were basically in a moving hot tin can with no air."

Things only got worse, though, as Fischer shared that a portable air-conditioning unit had been placed behind the bus, with a hose feeding through the sunroof. But, it wasn't long before they started noticing a "funny smell".

"We began debating whether the bus smelled funny. Then our camera operator spoke up. She didn't feel well. She stumbled and set down her camera," she said.

It turns out that the hose was actually next to the vehicle's exhaust pipe, meaning that it was "sucking in exhaust and blowing it straight into the sunroof of the bus".

"We were all being slowly poisoned. Or not so slowly, actually," she added.

Kinsey added: "Poor Bryan Cranston. I gave him a big hug. He was so calm and kind even as the wheels were literally coming off the Dunder Mifflin bus."

The Office US is available to watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
