Olly Murs banned from singing in Manchester

We have bad news for Olly Murs fans in the North West of England. It has been reported that the Dear Darlin singer is banned from performing at any official events in Manchester.

The Essex native left fans and Olympians bereft when he pulled out of the city’s Olympic and Paralympic parade show at the last minute on Monday and watched a Manchester United v Liverpool football game instead but his decision to ditch the gig infuriated councillor Pat Karney, who has told him he’s never allowed to play future shows in the borough.

Scrambling to defend himself, Olly has hit back at Cllr Karney in an interview with The Sun newspaper and insisted he doesn’t know all the facts.

He said: “This guy that has been talking about it on the radio, he is a Manchester councillor. This guy is the only person who has come out and said anything. The organisers haven’t said anything. He is making a name for himself. If you want to come and speak to me, mate, then let’s have a chat about it.”

The 32-year-old star went on: “I would never mouth off about someone unless I know the facts. And he doesn’t know the facts. He is entitled to his opinion but he should find out the details first.”

Olly - who is a Man United fan - is adamant the decision to cancel wasn’t entirely his and his management encouraged him to pull out.

He explained: "People were saying I went to the Liverpool game and couldn’t be bothered to go to the gig. That’s where I drew the line. I was like, ‘Hang on a minute, that is really starting to p*** me off now’. I was going to the gig and I actually said, 'Obviously, if the Olympics runs over, we can’t go to the football’.

“But on the day my management and my team were having issues behind the scenes with different things. It just wasn’t organised. I never pull out of gigs. Ever. It’s not my style. But I trust my management. So when they ring me up saying, 'Olly, we are pulling you from this gig. We don’t want you to do it. It’s all a bit of a shambles’, I just said, 'Well if that’s your decision then I trust you.’ ”
