Landau is best known for his work in movies, although he has also worked on television.

The actor secured an Oscar for his performance as film legend Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton's 1994 biopic Ed Wood, which starred Johnny Depp as the titular protagonist.

He also received nominations for Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors and Francis Ford Coppola's Tucker: The Man and His Dream and is also well known for roles in movies such as Cleopatra, The Greatest Story Ever Told and Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest.

On the small screen, alongside his wife Barbara Bain, Landau secured a role in spy TV series Mission: Impossible as the seriously sleuth Rollin Hand in the '60s.

In the mid 1970s, the pair worked together again on sci-fi classic Space: 1999.

However, they divorced in 1993 after having two daughters together, Susan and Juliet.
