Overheated: Billie Eilish to front upcoming London climate event

The green revolution has added another name to its ranks: popstar Billie Eilish has announced that she will be getting involved with a multi-day climate change event at London’s O2 arena this summer.

Eilish, who will be in London this June for her Happier Than Ever world tour, will be taking part in the event, called Overheated, to raise awareness of the need for climate action.

The singer, who appeared at the Met Gala this year in an eco-friendly dress, will be introducing a panel event, Overheated Live, along with her brother Finneas.

The panel event itself will be hosted by BBC Radio host Abbie McCarthy and there will also be a keynote address from another special guest - as yet unannounced.

If you’re into celeb spotting, Overheated is already starting to look like the event to be. Artists Yungblud and Sigrid also getting involved, in addition to designer Vivienne Westwood – all of whom will be featuring in a documentary that will be screened at the event.

The event itself will feature performances and discussions with musicians, activists, designers and other notable figures, and will run over six days: June 10, 11, 12, 16, 25 and 26.

This isn’t the first time that Eilish has expressed her desire for action in tackling the climate crisis.

In mid-April, the No Time to Die singer announced her support for the musical climate initiative Music Declares Emergency U.S.

Representing more than 3,000 artists and figures from the music industry – including Annie Lennox, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and Arcade Fire – it is an environmental pressure group that aims to encourage change within government.

“We call on all those within the US music industry to join us in declaring a climate emergency and to work towards making the cultural and operational changes necessary to contribute towards a sustainable future,” a statement reads on their website.

Speaking ahead of the COP26 summit in Glasgow last year, Eilish also joined forces with scientists from the Arctic basecamp.

In a video recorded speech, she said: "This year our leaders are deciding the global actions required on the environment climate emergency in a critical decade for our planet.

"We must stand together and speak up to save our planet, not just for us, but for our future generations, and we need urgent, urgent action now and to work together as one.”

Proceeds from Overheated’s ticket sales will also be going to good use. They will be donated directly to the charity Support + Feed, which promotes sustainable eating and plant-based diets, and REVERB, an initiative that encourages musicians and venues to make music events more sustainable.

Tickets for Overheated will be going on sale from 6 May on Ticketmaster.
