Pacific Rim 2 has been pushed back by a month

For anyone eagerly awaiting it, Pacific Rim: Uprising has been delayed a month by Universal.

Deadline reports that the sequel has been pushed back from February 23 to March 23 next year, meaning it will now come out in the US against the Robin Hood prequel starring Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx.

Pacific Rim: Uprising will also come out a week before Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, but at least it is clear of Marvel's Black Panther, out on February 16.

John Boyega stars in the sequel as the son of Idris Elba's war hero Stacker Pentecost from the first movie, alongside fellow newcomers Scott Eastwood and Jing Tian, with Burn Gorman and Charlie Day among the returning stars.

Last month, we were given our first look at Boyega all suited up as he went full Jaeger in a teaser.

The sequel is directed by Steven S DeKnight, with Pacific Rim's director Guillermo del Toro on board as producer, and he's been letting us in on a few little secrets about the sequel.

"We're going a very different route. Pacific Rim had what I used to call 'Gothic tech' – the storm, the rain, it was very tempestuous, atmospheric," he teased. "[Pacific Rim 2] has a lot more daylight, for example. I cannot say what, but we have elements that are different."

Pacific Rim: Uprising lands in cinemas on March 23, 2018.
