Normal People’s Paul Mescal will accompany Dermot Kennedy for a one-off gig streamed from the Natural History Museum tonight.

The two Irish stars of acting and music will join forces as part of the museum’s Some Summer Night series.

Mescal will read spoken word pieces between each of Kennedy’s songs, with the musician backed by his full live band in the unusual surroundings.

Talking to Metro, Kennedy explained that the unlikely collaboration came about after the two linked up on social media, bonding over their similarly rapid rises to fame.

“I messaged him to say despite how crazy it has been, I hope he is enjoying it and being in that moment instead of being swept up in it,” Kennedy said. “Then the idea for the show came about and he said yes.”

Kennedy has won a legion of fans after being catapulted from a busker on the streets of Dublin to international renown thanks to tracks such as Outnumbered and the success of his debut album, Without Fear.

Mescal, meanwhile, has become a pop culture icon — and something of a sex symbol — after his Emmy-nominated turn in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People.
