The celebrity everyone was waiting to see has arrived in the jungle, and boy did Matt Hancock live up to everyone’s expectations. Low expectations that is.

There are three things I learned when I was doing the show.

Don’t sing. 2. Don’t name drop. And 3. Don’t laugh at your own jokes. Unfortunately, I did all three!

Matt Hancock had barely walked in and he was singing Ed Sheeran and making everyone confused. I guess it could have been worse: he could've started singing 'Insania'!

While there is so much focus on the former health secretary, another campmate managed to make headlines at the start of the week — when she disappeared from the show after just 24 hours.

Olivia Attwood’s departure was quite the exit. It’s a shame for her he had to go home so soon. In that first episode she showed real promise, and her banter with Chris Moyles was perfect. She must feel gutted, but it’s not like she got kicked out because of failure.

According to sources, it was out of her control and everyone has been talking about her in a nice way. When the time is right I am sure she will reveal the truth.

I know I said singing on the show was a bad idea, but I loved it when Jill Scott did the rap from 'Mysterious Girl'. I thought she was fab. We were both at the Pride Of Britain Awards recently and although we never had the chance to say 'hi' to each other, we have connected through the screen.

At Pride of Britain, when she and all the other Lionesses got up on stage I was thinking “You guys are heroes!” And then it turns out she’s a 90s fan.

I think she should come to a gig one day and jump on stage to perform the rap live with me. Watch this space!

Voting power

It was great how Ant and Dec teased out that first trial announcement after Matt Hancock’s arrival. Of course it was going to be him everyone voted for!

I remember that feeling of sitting round the fire and them saying “It might be you.” They give the trials these cryptic names, like Tentacles Of Terror. You have no idea what you might be in for. You want it to be you, in a sense that you want to win stars and help feed your campmates.

But you also don’t want it to be you, so you have no chance of failing, and letting everyone down. There is so much pressure and I remember such a wave of relief when they would say: “Peter… it’s not you.”

My family and I gather round the TV most evenings to watch TV and I love the show. It’s a time to relax, I put my feet up with a cup of tea and a biscuit or three. Emily never used to watch it, but I’m slowly getting her into it. And when the older kids watch it they’re like “I could do that!”

The confidence of youth! I think the trials are getting more and more brutal every year. You see any trial is brutal if that trial is based on one of your phobias.

So when Boy George and Chris Moyles were doing HMS Down Under and the water was getting higher and higher - I'm sure they were thinking, "If that water keeps rising up we might actually drown".

Rumble in the jungle

Talking of Boy George, there’s more than just water rising. The tension is rocketing and it’s only week one. Boy George has always been nice to me, but I can tell that if you push his buttons he will get angry.

Like a lot of people in the country he still feels raw about not being able to visit his mum in hospital during COVID. But even though a lot of people feel very angry about the former health minister being there, they also know they can’t all turn on him at once.

So their feelings are quietly brewing and eventually something is going to blow. It might be about the cooking, or the fire wood or the cleaning. It can get petty in the camp when you’re tired and hungry.

Let’s hope everyone keeps their cool, because if it blows, I think it’s going to get nasty.

I’m a politician… get me out of here!

I was impressed by how quick the other celebrities were to step up and challenge Matt Hancock on what he was doing in the jungle.

Charlene was asking him how he thinks he can fly to the other side of the world when the UK is going through one of the biggest financial crises it’s seen in years. And his comeback was “Rishi has things under control.” I'm not sure he realises that 90 something percent of the population are struggling to heat their homes?!

The timing is shocking. Even if he wants to ‘show everyone his human side’ he could at least have waited until things get better economically. Some people might say he’s brave for signing up to the show, knowing he will be voted to take part in every task.

But rightfully so, others argue that he should be trying to help get the country in order?!
