Good Morning Britain viewers have criticised Piers Morgan for comparing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to dictators ahead of their forthcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.

With the first clip from the royal pair’s sitdown talk with Winfrey being released just days after Prince Harry took part in a lengthy interview with James Corden, Morgan shared his thoughts on the couple once again on Monday (1 March).

“They only want positive media coverage,” Morgan told co-host Susanna Reid. “Who else wants that? Oh, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-Un. They want only positive media coverage, don’t they? That’s not how it works in a democracy.”

Speaking about Prince Harry’s interview with Corden for The Late Late Show, during which the pair took part in an open-top bus tour across Los Angeles, Morgan said: “Does it get any more embarrassing than this?”

Morgan was widely condemned on Twitter for his comments, with many Good Morning Britain viewers telling the presenter to “leave Harry and Meghan alone”.

“Leave Harry alone Piers,” one commenter wrote. “You were talking about people being mean to Caroline Flack the day, yet you’re doing the same to Harry and Meghan.”

“I thought Piers Morgan said he would stop talking about Prince Harry and Princess Meghan?” another tweet read. “Piers is obsessed. He can’t function one week without mentioning them.”

“Piers Morgan losing it again over Meghan on @GMB,” another comment read.

“Meghan and Harry live rent free in Piers Morgan’s head,” one social media user wrote.

“I usually agree with Piers on most things but he’s starting to sound so bitter about Harry & Meghan, obsessed comes to mind!” one fan said.

“Had to switch off. Really love the programme and particularly the coverage of the pandemic and holding ministers to account, but honestly let it go just a bit about Harry and Meghan. Sounds obsessed. I’ll give today a miss and tune in tomorrow! Too much,” one GMB viewer wrote.
