Piers Morgan is set to make his return to TV news with a global show on a brand new channel from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, set to launch in early 2022.

New channel talkTV will offer current affairs, entertainment, sports, documentaries and debate, with Morgan in a key role presenting a flagship evening show that will air in the UK, US and Australia.

Since he stormed out of ITV's Good Morning Britain in March over a row about his comments on Meghan Markle, Morgan has not signed up to any new TV hosting work.

Along with his show on the new talkTV, he has also bagged a range of other work including two weekly online columns for News Corp titles The Sun and the New York Post, and a deal with HarperCollins for the follow-up to his bestselling Wake Up.

Morgan said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to News Corp which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago. Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together.

“I want my global show to be a fearless forum for lively debate and agenda-setting interviews, and a place that celebrates the right of everyone to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously examined and challenged.

“I’m also delighted to become a columnist for The Sun and the New York Post, two brilliantly successful and popular newspaper brands.

“I’m going home and we’re going to have some fun.”

Murdoch said: “Piers is the broadcaster every channel wants but is too afraid to hire. Piers is a brilliant presenter, a talented journalist and says what people are thinking and feeling.

“He has many passionate fans around the world and we look forward to expanding his audience in the UK, at FOX Nation, Sky News Australia, The Sun and the New York Post.”

With talkTV promising to use many of News Corp's own staff from brands including talkRADIO, talkSPORT, The Sun and The Times, it looks possible that Jeremy Kyle could also make a TV return.

The Jeremy Kyle Show was axed by ITV in 2019 following the death of a guest and with Kyle having made his talkRADIO presenting debut this week, he could be looking at being back on screen next year.

Other presenters at talkRADIO include Robert Rinder and Julia Hartley-Brewer, although it has not yet been confirmed who will join the talkTV team.

News UK CEO Rebekah Brooks said: “Piers will be the most brilliant primetime draw for our new talkTV service and a fantastic columnist for The Sun. Sun readers love Piers and I am delighted that he is back. Welcome home!”
