Nearly 25 years after the Police Academy went behind enemy lines on a Mission to Moscow, it looks like a revival, reboot or sequel is finally in the works.

The quirky action-comedy series from the '80s and early '90s following a group of madcap cops turned Steve Guttenberg into one Hollywood's biggest stars for a short while, and the franchise still has a cult following.

Since just about everything from the '80s is getting rebooted or revived (even Alf!), it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that Guttenberg confirmed on Twitter that Police Academy is next on the list.

When asked this week if he'd make a new sequel in London, Guttenberg teased: "The next Police Academy is coming, no details yet, but it is in a gift bag being readied!"

There had been talk of a reboot of Police Academy from Get Out director Jordan Peele and his comedy partner Keegan-Michael Key two years ago, under the title Police Academy: Next Generation.

At the time, Steve Guttenberg told Digital Spy that he was "thrilled" to see Key and Peele modernising a classic comedy franchise like Police Academy for a new generation.

"When they're remaking films, it's a great tip of the hat to the original filmmakers, in that they made something that worked," he told us at the time.

Police Academy cast members Guttenberg, Michael Winslow, Marion Ramsey and Leslie Easterbrook most recently reunited in the Sharknado spin-off Lavalantula, which aired on Syfy in the US in 2015.
