THIS is the wreckage of a lorry after it crashed into motorway bridge yesterday - and the driver managed to escape with only minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the road traffic collision northbound on the A1(M) at Bradbury, near Sedgefield, yesterday morning.

The one-vehicle collision involved a Scania truck which collided with the interchange concrete bridge near Junction 60 shortly before 7am.

The crash caused significant delays and traffic jams of about 3.5miles built up arond the scene.

A spokesperson for Durham police said: "The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

"Major disruption was caused to commuters.

"Officers want to thank drivers for their patience during the incident."
