Prince Andrew planning high-profile public appearance with Royal Family next week

Prince Andrew is set to make a high-profile public appearance with the Royal Family on Monday.

Yahoo News UK understands the scandal-hit Duke of York is expected to be part of a procession to St George’s Chapel in Windsor as part of Garter Day.

It will be for an Order of the Garter service for the Duchess of Cornwall.

Prince Andrew - who stepped down from public life after the furore over his friendship with paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, and who paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault case to a woman he claimed never to have met - remains a Knight of the Order of the Garter.

He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

A Buckingham Palace release about the service did not specifically mention the duke, but it is understood he plans to be there.

High-profile appearances by Prince Andrew are likely to be regarded as attempts to secure a comeback to public life and rehabilitate his reputation.

He was omitted from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee balcony line-up, but had been due to attend the Jubilee service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral last week.

However, he missed the service after testing positive for COVID.

It meant awkward questions about his presence at the celebrations were avoided after the backlash to his surprise public appearance alongside the Queen at the Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service in March. This was his most recent public appearance.

Before the Jubilee festivities, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, had suggested Andrew was “seeking to make amends”, adding: “I think that’s a very good thing.”

The duke was cast out of the working monarchy and no longer uses his HRH style after Virginia Giuffre, who was trafficked by Epstein, accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 17.

The duke denied the claims. In March he paid millions to Ms Giuffre in an out-of-court settlement.
