Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made some explosive claims about life in the Royal Family as they opened up to Oprah Winfrey about stepping back from senior royal life.

The couple, who now live in Santa Barbara, California, spoke about their experiences and gave their perspective on life inside Buckingham Palace.

Alongside some enormous claims about the royals, they also shared some other moments of the last few years of their relationship.

Here are five of their revelations from the interview.

They were already married on their wedding day

Meghan revealed that despite the huge royal wedding, which had thousands of guests – including Oprah Winfrey – she and Prince Harry were already married the day they said "I do".

The couple tied the knot in the garden with no family, just the Archbishop of Canterbury, three days before the royal Windsor wedding.

"This spectacle is for the world," Meghan said. "But we want our union for us."

She said her marriage certificate in their home now, in Santa Barbara, has the true date.

She also of the public wedding date: "The night before I slept through the night entirely, which in and of itself is a bit of a miracle.

“And then I woke up and started listening to that song Going To The Chapel, and just tried to make it fun and light and remind ourselves that this was our day – but I think we were both really aware, even in advance, that this wasn’t our day.

“This was the day that was planned for the world.”

Harry and Meghan are having a girl

The couple revealed the sex of their second child in the interview – telling Winfrey they are having a girl.

Harry shared the news after joining his wife for the second part of the interview.

He said: "To have a boy and then a girl, I mean what more can you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, we got the four of us and our two dogs."

Meghan said: "Two is it."

They are expecting their baby in the "summertime".

They have watched The Crown

Harry hinted when he spoke to James Corden that he had seen some of Netflix's The Crown, which chronicles and dramatises his family's life, but he confirmed they have to Winfrey.

Asked by Winfrey if they watch it, Harry replied coyly: “I’ve watched some of it. We’ve watched some of it.”

Meghan, laughing, added: “I’ve watched some of it.”

Harry saw something of Diana in Meghan

Prince Harry suggested there was something of his mother Diana in Meghan's popularity, and that made people afraid.

Speaking about their tour in Australia, Harry said: "They saw how good she [Meghan] was at the job.

"That brought back memories."

He also spoke about his fear of "history repeating itself", stating: "What I was seeing was history repeating itself, but definitely far more dangerous – because then you add race in, and you add social media in."

He said he was referring to his mother's death in 1997.

Meghan could have kept acting

Harry revealed there was a suggestion that Meghan “carried on acting because there was not enough money to pay for her”.

He added: “There were some real obvious signs, before we even got married, that this was going to be really hard.”

But Meghan spoke about how she gave up her career because she loved him.

Asked whether Meghan instigated their departure to build a brand, she said: “Can you imagine how little sense that makes?

“I left my career, my life, everything because I love him.”

Oprah With Meghan And Harry will air on ITV on 8 March at 9pm.
