Prince William has said his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is “OK” after he spent a sixth night in hospital.

Prince Philip was admitted into King Edward VII hospital on Tuesday evening as a precautionary measure after feeling unwell. He is said to have walked in unaided.

During a visit to a Covid-19 vaccination centre in Norfolk today, the Duke of Cambridge gave a reassuring wink when asked about the health of his grandfather and said the 99-year-old was “OK”.

“Yes, he’s OK, they’re keeping an eye on him,” he said.

Since the duke’s admission into the central London hospital, he has received a visit from his eldest son, the Prince of Wales, who was seen arriving on Saturday afternoon.

Prince Charles made a 200-mile round-trip from his home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire and it is understood that his visit was due to his father’s extended stay.

Sources have said that the duke was likely to remain in hospital into the coming week for "observation and rest".

Prince Philip, who turns 100 on June 10, is in hospital for an undisclosed reason although it is not coronavirus-related.

The duke has been spending the latest lockdown with the Queen at Windsor Castle where, in January, they both received Covid vaccinations.

His last hospital admission took place in December 2019, when he spent four nights at the King Edward VII hospital and was treated for a “pre-existing condition”. He was discharged on Christmas Eve.

The duke’s hospital stay came during a busy week for the royal family, after Buckingham Palace announced that the Sussexes would be stripped of their titles after they decided to not return as working members of the Royal Family.

A palace statement said the royals were "saddened by their decision" but they "remain much-loved members of the family".

On Saturday, Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank also announced that they named their newborn son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

The couple shared a picture of their son in a photo released by Buckingham Palace and posted on Eugenie’s Instagram page.

August, who was born on February 9, is the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s ninth great-grandchild.
