The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration on ITV: What is it and who is starring in it?

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration airs on ITV on Sunday, kicking off the special programmes marking the incredible 70-year reign of The Queen.

It's difficult to imagine a more star-studded line-up than the eclectic cast of actors, musicians and performers taking part, who will also share the stage with hundreds of horses for the royal celebration.

Here's all you need to know about what to expect from the first major broadcast in celebration of the Jubilee.

When is The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration on TV?

The show has been running from Windsor Castle for four nights starting on Thursday, 12 May, but the Sunday, 15 May event will broadcast live on ITV from 8pm.

Who is starring in the programme?

Who isn't? It's an unusual combination of stars, but the big-name cast list proves just what a huge event this is in our history.

Top of the bill are Dame Helen Mirren and Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise, but there are an enormous number of other performers to look out for.

Also appearing in the celebrity bingo broadcast will be Damian Lewis, Omid Djalili, Adjoa Andoh, Gregory Porter, Martin Clunes, Keala Settle, Alan Titchmarsh and Katherine Jenkins.

Joining them are Lord Lloyd Webber, Ant and Dec, Dame Joan Collins, Sir Mo Farah, Dame Maureen Lipman, Sir David Jason, Dame Kelly Holmes, Moira Stuart and Sir Trevor McDonald.

The programme will be hosted by newsreader Julie Etchingham and This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield.

What will The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration involve?

The pageantry event that has been running since 12 May sees actors play out a number of royal scenes of historic significance from through the ages.

Mirren stars as Queen Elizabeth 1, having previously played Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen and each of the four acts in the show will get a celebrity host, who have been named as Cruise, Lewis, Andoh and Titchmarsh.

Meanwhile, Djalili has been cast as The Herald, a narrator who will guide viewers through the scenes included in the show.

The Greatest Showman star Settle will perform Sing written by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber along with 54 children from The Commonwealth Youth Choir – each child representing each member of the Commonwealth.

Grammy Award winner Porter and classical favourite Jenkins will also sing at the celebration, which includes more than 1,300 performers and 500 horses from countries around the world.

Will The Queen be there?

As yet, no one is really sure.

The Queen has been invited to attend, but she has been resting at home recently and has either missed public engagements or not yet confirmed others which are coming up.

However, she has been invited to a huge number of Jubilee celebrations and given that Prince Charles replaced her earlier this week to read out the Queen's Speech in the House of Lords, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if she chose to tune in from home instead.
