The Real Full Monty stars' bravery praised by fellow celebs

Last night saw nine celebs bare all in front of a live audience and television cameras to perform a routine on The Real Full Monty.

The ITV one-off show held to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer took place during the 21st anniversary of the popular British film, The Full Monty.

TOWIE’s James ‘Arg’ Argent, presenter Jeff Brazier, chef Ainsley Harriot, former EastEnders actor John Partridge, ex-footballer John Hartson, and Diversity’s Ashley Banjo were some of the famous names taking part who had either experienced cancer in their family or had suffered from (and overcame) the disease firsthand.

The celebs had spent some time prepping their routine and rehearsing during the week before the televised event but, as with live TV, everyone was expecting the unexpected.

Yet despite some nerves everything went off successfully (and quite literally), as the nine chaps recreated the famous end scene in the film that starred Robert Carlyle and Tom Wilkinson.

One of last year’s strippers and this year’s Celebrity Big Brother housemate Wayne Sleep was on hand to offer the fellas support, branding their show a hit and said how important it was to raise awareness of the disease.

‘At ‘The Real Full Monty: Live’. A second one after the success of the first show last year that I was proud to be a part of, bringing awareness to prostate and testicular cancers. With Ainsley Harriot, John Hartson and Ruth Madoc.’

And he wasn’t the only celeb to tweet praise and pride to the men that took part. Loose Women’s Kaye Adams said she ‘really enjoyed’ the show, and wished her women friends (who are doing their own show tonight) the best of luck.

Ashley Banjo’s pal and fellow member of dance group Diversity Sam Craske was full of praise, saying Ashley and the lads ‘smashed that performance’ and were an ‘inspiration’.

McFly’s Harry Judd, who appeared in last year’s show, congratulated the follow-up.

Gemma Collins, girlfriend of Arg, was full of love and heaped personal praise on the star who was arguably most bashful about getting his kit off, calling his efforts ‘fantastic’.

During the time the men spent together preparing for the night, he refused to shower with the other celebs and was extremely coy about revealing his body. However, when it came to the crunch he went all the way with the other eight guys.

TOWIE and I’m A Celeb star Fearne McCann appeared to enjoy herself, too. ‘What a great show, fantastic message & so inspiring’ she tweeted.

And as Prostate Cancer UK reminded us, there was a serous side to why the guys were doing the strip tease in the first place. ‘1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in the UK, and we need to fund life-saving research’, they said.
