Jay Blades is keen to star in an ‘Only Fools and Horses’ reboot.

The furniture restorer and presenter rose to prominence fronting BBC One hit series ‘The Repair Shop’.

Blades, who was brought up on a council estate, is a huge fan of ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and actor Sir David Jason – who played iconic character Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter – as his own rags to riches story mirrors that of the East London Sitcom.

Jay took part in the Christmas special of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last year, where he jived to the theme tune of ‘Only Fools and Horses’, and he was in disbelief when the 82-year-old actor sent him a personalised video message.

Asked if whether he would be up to play a part in a revamp series of the hit show, he told the Daily Star newspaper: “You know that answer. That’s a big fat yes.

“My bottom lip went when David came out of retirement to send me a message.

“I haven’t met him yet but am in contact with him through his wife.

"I’d never say never to doing a full series of ‘Strictly’ either, but right now my schedule is insane.”

The 52-year-old TV personality suffered a breakdown after his restoration charity for young people failed. After hitting rock bottom, the only way was up for Jay when a businessman approached him about his charity, which led to opportunities at the BBC after they saw a video of him.

Jay was appointed an MBE last week for his services at Windsor Castle by Prince Charles, who is ambassador of the Prince’s Trust charity.

He added: “He’s a really cool geezer and so passionate about crafts.

“It was someone from the council estate and someone from the royal estate coming together.

“I didn’t take him anything upcycled or for the Queen’s Jubilee, they have enough.

“I see myself as a glorified community worker you don’t have to have the abs and ‘Love Island’ abs to make it.”
