Richard Gere, 69, and his wife Alejandra Silva, 35, have reportedly welcomed their first child together. According to Spanish magazine Hola!, Silva gave birth to a son a few days ago in New York City, USA.

This will be Gere’s second child. The American actor has a 19-year-old son, Homer Gere, with his ex-wife Carey Lowell.

This will also be Silva’s second child. The Spanish publicist and humanitarian activist has a six-year-old son, Albert, with ex-husband Govind Friedland.

Gere and Silva have yet to announce the name of their child, whom they announced they were expecting last September.

That month Silva shared a pictured of herself and Gere receiving a blessing for their unborn child from the Dalai Lama. Gere, a practicing Buddhist himself, is a long-term friend of the exiled spiritual leader and teacher.

The couple married in April 2018, after four years of dating. This is Silva’s second marriage and Gere’s third. They allegedly met while Gere was staying at an Italian hotel which Silva had bought with her ex husband.

Gere reportedly wooed Silva by repeatedly sending her flowers until she agreed to go on a date with him.

He gushed about his bride in a Hello interview last year: “I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be?

“I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!”

Richard Gere is due to star in the drama series MotherFatherSon on BBC Two this spring.
