Rob Beckett discovers he is related to Britain's strongest man in 'DNA Journey'

DNA Journey returns this week with a surprising revelation for comedian Rob Beckett - who discovers he is related to Britain's strongest man.

The ITV genealogy show sees pairs of celebrity friends take part in tracing their family trees and finding out more about their unknown surviving relatives.

On Thursday, comedians and best pals Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan team up to find out more about their families, and Beckett is amazed to learn that he is actually related to Britain's strongest man, Oli Thompson.

In a first-look clip from the episode, Beckett is shown nervously awaiting a meeting with Thompson as friend Ranganathan ramps up the tension.

Well-built Thompson is shown pacing towards the pair as Beckett says: "I am nervous, what if he hates me?

"I just saw him. He looks like he's coming to collect a debt."

Beckett continues: "I don't know why I'm scared. They've set this up like it's a fight."

He then tells Ranganathan: "He's going to be so disappointed," who replies: "I'm disappointed for him."

The series will conclude next week with an episode following ITV daytime stars Kate Garraway and Alison Hammond tracing their family trees.

It is the second part of the 2022 series, which aired its first part earlier in the year.

Earlier episodes featured The Chase's Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace, actors Dame Maureen Lipman and Rula Lenska, and Olympic ice skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Torvill and Dean's episode was a particularly emotional watch as Dean opened up on his traumatic childhood, which involved his mother leaving the family home when he was just six years old and his father moving in another woman who would become his step-mother later the same day.

Other celebrity pairs to have taken part in DNA Journey include Ant and Dec, Amanda Holden and Alan Carr, and Martin and Roman Kemp.

DNA Journey airs on Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
