Yahoo News Rocketman star explains why he didn't "camp it up" for lead role
Taron Egerton has revealed why he chose not to "camp it up" for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman.
The Kingsman star encapsulated everything about the 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' icon in Dexter Fletcher's "musical fantasy" earlier this year, but was wary of overdoing certain personality traits just to fit in with Elton's homosexuality.
In Taron's own words, "Elton is not a camp man".

Asked by GQ Magazine if he'd worried about anything before signing up for the role, the actor responded: "The thing I was nervous of... There's a certain amount of trepidation around playing a gay character when you're a heterosexual. Because you don't want that community to feel you're doing some sort of caricature or something.
"I didn't want to camp it up, because Elton is not a camp man," he added. "I knew quite acutely that wasn't what I wanted to do."
Explaining how this played on his mind when the movie was released, Taron noted: "I knew it would be something that some people would take issue with. But I also knew that the film was very, very celebratory about that side of the character.
"So I felt that, generally, people would be accepting."
It seems Taron managed to pull it off.
